PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
NEW YEAR, NEW IDEAS
As NALS of Orange County wraps up the 2011-2012 year, we look back and remember all of the great legal education we offered to the Orange County legal community. Did you attend the 2011 court rules updates? Did you learn anything from the Orange County Red Cross regarding disaster and emergency preparedness? Did you and your coworkers attend the sessions on Power Point, calendaring, trial preparation, elder law unlawful detainers, or identity theft? If you didn’t attend even one of these sessions, you missed an expert speaker presenting valuable information which enhances your career and makes you a more valuable employee.
So why not make a new year’s resolution to attend the sessions being offered by NALS of Orange County in 2012-2013? We start the year with three months of court rules updates from the Orange County Superior Court, the U.S. District Court, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. Other topics we’re considering this year include federal court motion practice, a visit from the County Recorder’s office, and a refresher on subpoenas. I know you’ll agree that each of these sessions will provide important information to help you in your job as a legal support professional. When you receive the flyers, share them with coworkers and, of course, your attorneys and office administrators.
NALS of Orange County also presents something new for this issue of Legalities. We’re holding a year-long contest and want you to remember us when you’re on vacation throughout the year. When you’re traveling, take Legalities with you (okay, the face page will be enough!) and pose for a picture at a local landmark. When you return, send us those pictures and we will include them in Legalities. When you submit a picture, your name will go into a drawing for a great prize to be given away at our holiday meeting on December 11, 2012. So get your creative juices flowing and send us your photos (you must be holding a copy of our newsletter!) from the Grand Canyon, Little Big Horn, any one of the Great Lakes, Little Rock, the Tiny Town and Railroad in Colorado, Big Bear, or the Museum of Small Town Life in Delaware. You do not have to be a member of NALS of Orange County (of course, we’d love to have you join!); you just to be reader of our newsletter. You could win a great prize at the end of the year!
I look forward to having you join us at an upcoming meeting and becoming a member of NALS of Orange County. If you need more information about upcoming local, regional or national educational sessions, please visit www.nalsoc.org, www.nalsregion8.org, or www.nals.org. Best wishes for a happy, healthy and prosperous new year.
In friendship,
Caryn
